THC-O safety
What is THC-O? THC-O is short for O-acetyl-Δ9-THC (yes, we’re also thankful for the short version!). It’s a synthetic cannabinoid made using Delta 9 THC from hemp plants, but it has to be properly extracted and then synthesized to become what we know as THC-O. It happens through a structural isomerization process that uses sulfuric acid and acetic anhydride. Sounds difficult, but it’s not rocket science.
It’s widely known that this synthetic cannabinoid is way stronger and more potent than regular THC (including what we know as Delta 9 THC). Why? According to research, THC-O shows a higher bioavailability than other forms of THC, sometimes even resulting in hallucinatory effects. Does it mean it’s not safe? No, not necessarily.
What do we know about THC-O so far?
Although we know a lot about Delta 9 THC, THC-O is a rather new cannabinoid that still requires some research. So, is THC-O safe? Since its launch, there hasn’t been any alarming news - either from labs, researchers, or people who take THC-O - so there is no need to worry.
What effects can you expect from THC-O?
Many people who have tried THC-O were surprised by its mood-enhancing abilities. They say that THC-O induced euphoria, uplifting their state of mind. These claims may lead to the conclusion that THC-O could be helpful in treatment of mood disorders such as anxiety or depression. However, it’s essential to note that THC in any form can never be used as a replacement for medication and/or therapy. However, you can consider it a helpful addition.
Moreover, THC-O has similar pain-decreasing and anti-inflammatory effects as traditional THC.
Is vaping THC O safe? We have no reason to tell you “no”, however, remember - it’s called a “psychedelic cannabinoid” for a reason (and that reason is being about three times as potent as Delta 9 THC). That’s why we don’t recommend using THC-O if you have never tried regular THC.
How to make sure you stay safe enjoying THC-O?
As we mentioned above, there isn’t much research on THC-O yet, but recent studies haven’t shown any worrying results. And while there aren’t any sources suggesting it’s less safe than traditional THC, you must keep awareness when choosing the product.
What should you take into consideration when choosing your THC-O product?
- Firstly, don’t buy THC-O products from non-reputable cannabis companies. Never risk your health and well-being over a small saving. Put yourself first - keep in mind that you can only ensure your safety by choosing companies you can trust. Among other green flags, the company should only sell products with the appropriate certificates, e.g. a Certificate of Analysis (COA).
- If you tried Delta-9 THC and didn’t like the way it worked, you may not become a fan of THC-O as the possible effects are much alike.
- Start with a minimal dose. That way you’ll be able to tell how you feel with more clarity.
- If you’re hesitant about how your body will react to THC-O, you can always rely on friends, using a thing called ‘the buddy system’ to keep you safe.
- Don’t take THC-O for the first time if you have plans later. Make sure you can rest and relax without worrying about anything. That’s how we do it anyway.
- Make sure you’re comfortable with the current effects before you increase the dosage. A higher amount of THC-O doesn’t always mean better effects - adjust your intake until you’re sure it fits your needs.
