Wait, there’s more to the world of vaping than just various THC options? Yes, definitely, and we’re happy to share this knowledge with you. Keep reading to find out what HCC, HCC-O, and HCC-P are, and what are their effects and benefits. To make things easier for you, we’re not only going to explain what is what but also compare them to help you understand the crucial differences.

What is HCC?
HHC, known as hexahydrocannabinol, was first found in 1944, so it’s about 80 years old by now. The scientist who discovered it - American chemist Roger Adams - decided to add hydrogen molecules to Delta-9 THC (well-known in the scientific world as Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) and ended up performing the hydrogenation of THC to HHC. Hydrogen molecules changed tetrahydrocannabinol to hexahydrocannabinol.
Where can we find HCC?
HCC can be found in the pollen and seeds of the hemp plant; however, the amounts are relatively small. Otherwise, it’s a semi-synthetic derivate of THC obtained in the hydrogenation process.
Does HCC show similar properties as Delta-9 THC?
The research has yet to show what exact properties HCC has. However, it is said to have pain-relieving, anxiolytic and calming effects. In addition, its shelf-life is much longer than Delta-9’s, as the substance is very stable. Like Delta-9 THC, HCC also affects cannabinoid receptors, especially CB1 ones.
How is HCC obtained?
You already know about hydrogenation, the process of adding hydrogen to THC molecules. During this reaction, the structure of Delta-9 THC is modified to achieve a more stable structure. That’s why products containing HHC aren’t predisposed to heat or UV light damage.
But we wouldn’t have written this article if it had not been for the increasing popularity of HCC, which has led to more chemical research and, in consequence, the formulation of different HCC derivatives, HCC-O and HCC-P.
HCC-O
It’s one of the HCC derivatives. You can also find it on the shelves as HCC-O Acetate or HCC Acetate. Adding acetate to HCC made the substance a prodrug that needs human metabolism and enzymes to break down the acetate and finally prepare HCC to interact with our CB1 receptors in the cannabinoid system.
Why does it matter? What’s unique about HCC-O? It has interesting health properties, all thanks to longer-lasting effects. The effects are also more robust because of its higher bioavailability. Moreover, this compound affects different receptors than Delta-8 and Delta-9, resulting in a different outcome.
HHC-P
Lastly, we have HCC-P, hexahydrocannabiphorol, or the phytocannabinoid HHC, an incredibly fascinating, potent, and versatile substance. You must have heard about it already - and its popularity doesn’t come from nowhere.
Its bioavailability is exceptionally high due to many sources making this substance even ten times as potent as Delta-9 THC! What’s worth noting, it also lasts for a long time, affecting the nervous system to produce euphoria and psychotropic effects. Products containing HCC-P are usually made from hemp-derived CBD, but their composition is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) free.
HHC vs. HHC-O vs. HHC-P: know the difference
The potency
HCC is the least potent among these three. Then comes HCC-O (having around 1.5x the potency of HHC), leaving HCC-P first.
Among the three compounds, HCC-P offers the most extraordinary psychedelic experience. On the other hand, HCC-O is a bit milder, and HCC is known to be the least potent.
Lasting
HCC lasts the shortest, while HCC-O and HCC-P offer long-lasting effects.
Effects and benefits
All three substances have many therapeutic benefits for your body and mind, including:
- stimulating appetite,
- uplifting mood,
- relaxation,
- improving cognitive functions,
- anti-inflammatory properties,
- alleviating mild aches,
- relieving stress and anxiety.
